A plane flies over city A and reaches city B in 12 minutes, which is 120 miles away from it.

Math Question: A plane flies over city A and reaches city B in 12 minutes, which is 120 miles away from it. Find the speed of the plane in miles per hour assuming the plane flew at a constant speed.

Solution:

In the question, it was asked “miles per hour”. At the beginning of the question it said: “12 minutes”.

We have to convert from minutes to hour. Let’s do it.

  • If 60 minutes are 1 hour, how many hours 12 minutes?

12 minutes / 60 minutes = 0.2 hours. Now we must convert it “miles per hour”.

  • If a plane flies 120 miles in 12 minutes, find the plane speed in miles per hour.

120 miles x 0.2 hours = 600 miles per hours is plane speed.
